Seaboard Drilling performs geotechnical drilling to help our clients assess subsurface conditions. New England is geologically complex, so having experienced drilling crews and the equipment needed to explore the variety of geologic conditions is why our clients choose Seaboard Drilling, LLC. We continue to grow with a range of drilling rigs and support equipment to meet our clients’ needs. With a diverse fleet of drill rigs and probing rigs, we can access the most challenging sites. However, Seaboard Drilling, LLC understands that geotechnical drilling is an investigation, not a construction project, and will provide equipment to collect the samples you need while minimizing the impact to your site. A diverse line of equipment on hand allows us to provide support to the drilling operation that will increase the efficiency of most projects.

Geotechnical Services

The following are the geotechnical services that we provide:

  • Drilling Techniques:
    • Solid Stem Auger – We use continuous flight (solid stem) augers for shallow sampling or to probe for ledge.
    • Hollow Stem Auger (2 ¼”, 3 ¼”, 4 ¼”, and 6 ¼”) – We utilize hollow stem auger borings for SPT sampling of soil and monitoring well installation for shallow wells.
    • Casing (2”, 3”, 4”, 5” and 6”) – We provide cased borings using the drive and wash method of drilling with several diameters of casing available. Cased borings are used for SPT sampling, Shelby Tube sampling, vane shear testing, monitoring well installation and other in-situ testing.

  • Concrete/Asphalt Coring
  • Low Clearance Drilling with specialized drill rigs
  • Rock Coring: NQ double tube and HQ double and triple tube – We provide wire-line core drilling for continuous coring and sampling of bedrock.
  • Standard penetration testing (SPT) – calibrated auto-hammers are available on most of our drilling rigs.
